Inspiring Young Minds with Interior Design

Inspiring Future Creatives at Kew Woods Primary – Careers Carousel Fun!

Last week, we had the absolute pleasure of visiting Kew Woods Primary School to take part in their Careers Carousel event for Years 4, 5 and 6 – all wonderfully organised by the team at Elevate.

Events like these are so important when it comes to early careers education. Most children only know a few job roles – usually what their parents, aunties, or uncles do. So, giving them the chance to explore creative industries and lesser-known career paths can be a real eye-opener.

We were there to represent the world of interior design – and more specifically, commercial interior design – and we wanted to make sure our stand was as hands-on and inspiring as possible.

We kicked things off by chatting to the students about what our job actually involves. We explained that every interior design project we work on starts with three key things: colour, texture, and emotion. Then we gave them a fun little challenge...

Using a mix of materials and a bunch of creative "buzz words" like calm, bold, natural, and exciting, we asked them to create their own mini mood boards – just like we do when we’re starting a new project. It was a way for them to get a taste of the design thinking process and express how different spaces can make people feel.

The response? Absolutely fantastic. The kids jumped straight in with loads of enthusiasm, and the results were genuinely brilliant. It was so lovely to see their creativity, confidence, and individual styles shine through.

We left feeling really inspired – and reminded of just how valuable it is to introduce young people to creative careers they might never have come across before.

A huge thank you to Kew Woods Primary School and Elevate for inviting us. We loved every second and can’t wait to take part again!
